Answers to the questions people ask most, before and after they set Starta up.
Do I need to know how to code?#
No. You ask Claude in the Code tab of the Claude desktop app, and it writes the files and runs the commands. It helps to know your job: what you are measured on, who you work with and what you keep track of.
Where does it run, and what does Claude see?#
The app and your data stay on your computer. The app runs at http://localhost:9950 while you work and keeps your data in files in its folder. There is no Starta server.
Claude runs at Anthropic, and sees what it works with: your data files, your wiki pages, what you tell it, and the files it writes. So keep your app to work notes, nothing sensitive, and follow your company’s rules for AI tools. Anthropic’s terms are in its Privacy Policy and Commercial Terms.
Where is my data?#
In app/data/, one file per module: tasks.json, people.json, goals.json and about.md. They are plain files you own. You can change them on screen or ask Claude to, and the open page reloads by itself when Claude does.
Can I bring in a list I already have?#
Yes. Paste it into the chat, or drag in a spreadsheet, and ask: “Add these people to People.” Claude shows you what it will add, then writes the rows.
Can I add a module of my own?#
Yes. Tasks, People and Goals are built on the same table, so a new list needs no new code: one module file and one data file. Ask: “Add a module called Partners, with columns for name, contact and next meeting.” See Modules.
Why can I not edit About on screen?#
About is your role in your own words, so Claude writes it only by interviewing you. To change it, ask: “Update About: I now also look after our partners in Germany.”
I changed something on screen and it says there is a conflict#
You and Claude both write the same files. If Claude changed a file after you opened it, your save is refused rather than overwriting Claude’s change. Reload the page and make your change again.
Can colleagues use my app?#
Not at your address: the app runs on your computer, and localhost means “this computer”, so a colleague’s browser cannot open it. Starta has no hosting. A colleague can make their own work app in Create, and a wiki page downloads from the button at its top, to send.
How do I undo a change?#
Ask Claude to put the last change back. Your app is a folder kept in git, so every saved version can come back. Ask Claude to save a checkpoint before a bigger change.
What happens when Starta improves?#
Ask Claude for a kit update. Your data and wiki are never overwritten, and a file you changed is kept. See Kit updates.
