The app's look. Five themes, eight colours, six fonts and a logo, packed into one preset code.
The look is four choices: a theme, a colour, a font and a logo. You pick them in Create (see Quickstart) or later in the app’s Settings → Appearance, and they are packed into one short preset code such as fQnA.
Themes#
A theme is a style: its corners, its edges, its greys and its font. The screens underneath stay the same.
| Theme | Looks like |
|---|---|
| Neutral | shadcn/ui’s default look: neutral greys, a near-black primary, 10px corners, cards with a hairline and a faint shadow, Geist. The default. |
| Notion | Notion’s warm greys and off-white sidebar, 6px corners, flat cards with a hairline edge, Notion blue. |
| Airbnb | Airbnb’s look: white cards on its soft elevation shadows, 12px corners, 8px buttons and round icon buttons, #222222 text, its Rausch red. |
| Stripe | Stripe’s dashboard look: navy-grey text, pale blue-grey dividers, 6px fields and 12px cards on its soft two-layer shadow, its indigo. |
| Neo-brutalist | 2px black edges, 5px corners, hard offset shadows on cards and buttons, bold labels over medium text, Geist. A white sidebar ruled off in black on an off-white page; the open module is a solid block of the colour. Text and icons pure black, secondary text black at 50%. |
Picking a theme also picks its own colour and font: Notion takes Blue and System, Airbnb takes Red and System, Stripe takes Indigo and System, Neo-brutalist takes Orange and Geist.
Colours#
The colour is the accent: buttons, checked boxes, the focus ring and the active row in the sidebar.
Grey (the default: shadcn’s near-black), Blue, Green, Purple, Orange, Pink, Red or Indigo.
Fonts#
Geist (the default), System (San Francisco on a Mac, Segoe UI on Windows), Inter, IBM Plex Sans, Lora or Roboto. The web fonts are installed with the app, so nothing loads from elsewhere.
Logo#
The logo is the mark beside the app’s name at the top of the sidebar. There are 48 shapes, such as Rocket (the default), Layers, Star or Briefcase.
The preset code#
A code holds all four choices in a few characters. The first letter is the code’s version, currently f; the rest is the pick. fQnA is the default: Neutral, Grey, Geist, Rocket.
Changing the look#
Ask Claude:
“Switch the theme to Notion, with the Green colour.”
“Use the look from this Create link.”
Claude runs:
starta apply --preset fQnAapply writes two files whole from the code: app/src/theme.css (the style, colour and font) and app/src/theme.json (the code, the colour and the logo). If you changed theme.css by hand, it is kept, and the new one is written beside it as theme.css.kit for Claude to merge.
Change the look through a preset, not by editing theme.css: a preset can be applied again, a hand edit cannot.
